    Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Alfa Nibblets different from other forage pellets?

Alfa Nibblets come in a small 1/8" pellet size, easy for small mouths, seniors, and picky eaters to manage. They break down quickly when soaked, creating a soft mash that’s gentle on teeth and sensitive stomachs. Unlike many forage pellets, Alfa Nibblets contain no artificial dyes, so what you see is simply the natural color of the ingredients. Consistent size, easy soaking, and simple ingredients make them a reliable choice for everyday forage feeding.

    How much should I feed?

Forage is the foundation of every horse’s diet, but every one is an individual. Whether you are boosting calorie or fiber needs, or rethinking how forage is delivered - Alfa Nibblets can fit seamlessly into any program. Below are three flexible ways to feed Alfa Nibblets depending on needs, management style, and forage availability.

    1. Forage Extender - Alfa Nibblets can be used to stretch limited hay supplies or add consistent forage when pasture quality drops. They help maintain fiber intake, making them especially useful during seasonal transitions, travel, or times when hay quality varies. Because the nutrition is consistent bag to bag, you know exactly what your horse is getting every day.

    2. Forage Replacer - When hay is unavailable, restricted, or limited by veterinary instructions (such as after a dental procedure or surgery), Alfa Nibblets can be fed as a complete forage replacement. The small pellet size and high fiber content make them easy to eat for seniors, smaller mouths, and horses with dental or digestive sensitivities. They can be fed dry or soaked to a mash, providing safe, consistent nutrition while supporting comfort and hydration. When replacing forage, match lb for lb (5lbs Alfa Nibblets to replace 5lbs hay) unless specified otherwise by your vet or nutrition expert.

    3. Supplement Carrier - Do you feel like you’re cheating your grain-free horse with only a teeny, tiny scoop of their diet balancer or vitamin and mineral supplement? Alfa Nibblets can be the key to making your horse feel less ripped off and you less guilty. For powdered supplements, add a splash of water and they easily pick up and carry every ounce of added nutrition into your horse. For pelleted supplements, their 1/8 inch pellet size blends evenly, reduces sorting, and encourages consumption - delivering supplements more efficiently.

    Are Alfa Nibblets 100% alfalfa?

Alfalfa makes up a majority of the formula, but you will see a few other ingredients listed on the tag. These additional fiber sources are included in small amounts and are intentionally selected for their ability to help make the pellet soft, easy-to-chew, quick-to-soak when needed, and help maintain consistent nutrition from bag to bag. (Alfa Nibblets are 100% grain-free.)

Do I need to soak Alfa Nibblets?

Soaking is not required if your horse has good dental condition. When softer pellets are needed, they absorb water quickly making them especially convenient for horses with chewing or digestive limitations.

Do I still need to supplement with a fortified feed or balancer?

While Alfa Nibblets are a forage option that provides fiber, protein, and calories, they are not a complete source of vitamins and trace minerals. Most animals will still require a fortified feed, ration balancer, or vitamin and mineral supplement to meet overall nutritional needs.

Are there artificial dyes in Alfa Nibblets?

No. Alfa Nibblets do not contain artificial dyes. Their color comes naturally from their ingredients.

    Are Alfa Nibblets show-safe?

Alfa Nibblets do not contain drugs, medications, or prohibited substances. They are made from forage and fiber-based ingredients and are show-safe.

Are Alfa Nibblets copper-safe for sheep?

Yes. Alfa Nibblets do not contain added copper, making them safe to feed to sheep or other copper-sensitive species when used as a forage option.
