A diet balancer, sometimes called a ration balancer, is defined by its nutrient density and low feeding rate, not by a single nutrient like protein or fat.
Diet balancers are designed to complement a forage-based diet by supplying the vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids that may be lacking in hay or pasture. Because these nutrients are concentrated, they are typically fed in small amounts compared to traditional feeds, often less than 1 pound per day for a 1,000-lb horse. Universities and extension programs consistently describe ration balancers as concentrated nutrient sources intended to balance forage rather than provide large amounts of calories.
One common misconception is that diet balancers are defined by high crude protein levels, but a quality forage program almost always fulfills those needs. A diet balancer helps ensure horses receive the correct amino acids and micronutrients needed to properly utilize protein provided by forage. For example, lysine acts as the first limiting amino acid, and micronutrients serve as cofactors for enzymes involved in the digestion and metabolism of protein, ensuring that crude protein is efficiently used. In reality, what matters most is the balance of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks horses use to support muscle development, tissue repair, immune function, and other biological processes. Diet balancers also provide targeted levels of vitamins and trace minerals that are commonly deficient in forage, such as copper and zinc.

Probalance is so easy to feed and one bag lasts for a month for my 6 horses. I feed about 1/2 scoop a day for the entire herd. My 18-year-old Thoroughbred has lived outside for the majority of the time I have had him and enjoys it. He is out in a big grass field with a shelter and has hay in front of him 24/7 365. All hay is deficient in something. The key is to test your hay then use Pro Balance to make sure your horses are getting complete nutrition. This is a must have supplement in your daily feeding routine!

I feed an all forage diet and this product gives me all the benefits of a concentrated feed. Both of my horses are doing quite well with this supplement. I have a 32 year old mare that I thought we were coming close to the end. Great addition to my feed program to make sure my horses get all they need. It took a week or more for them to adjust to the taste but now they gobble it up.
Gave it a 2 because I really like the nutrition content. Highly recommend ordering the taste test sample bag! I wish this product worked for us! I have a 6 year old gelding who is generally not picky, but he immediately turned his nose up to this. I couldn’t get him to eat it on or mixed into anything.
We started feeding Pro Balance about four months ago to all of our herd and they’ve never looked better. Coats are shiny as can be! They love the taste and will eat it right out of my hand. Great product!
We feed this to all of our horses since they are all easy keepers and only moderate exercise. I feel great knowing that they're getting all the vitamins and minerals that they need, but not the excess calories. The serving size is small so we add just a tiny bit of Bluebonnet ProCare just so they feel better about grain time. Everyone gobbles this up and have never looked better!

My horse was overweight and arthritic. He is much closer now to his ideal weight and not as constrained by the ring bone in one of his front feet. The supplement mixed with 1/2 pound of Timothy hay pellets with water is all he is feed now twice a day as well as hay and grass pasture.
