feeds with Pro Balance™ technology
You can’t out-supplement a bad diet - just like you wouldn’t eat pancakes and ice cream for every meal and expect a multivitamin to fix it. Pro Balance™ assumes your horse’s diet is built on high-quality forage, which provides the majority of their protein, fiber, and calories. Pro Balance™ focuses on filling the vitamin, mineral, and amino acid gaps forage alone cannot provide. In less than a half-pound per day, it delivers carefully balanced vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to support muscle repair, hoof integrity, immune function, and metabolic balance. Plus, guaranteed probiotics and digestive enzymes support a happy gut and better absorption of those important nutrients.
Not sure if your forage is covering all the bases? You can check its nutrient content with hay testing resources at EquiAnalytical - visit our Ultimate Forage Guide to learn more. A diet balancer, sometimes called a ration balancer, is defined by its nutrient density and low feeding rate, not by a single nutrient like protein or fat.
Diet balancers are designed to complement a forage-based diet by supplying the vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids that may be lacking in hay or pasture. Because these nutrients are concentrated, they are typically fed in small amounts compared to traditional feeds, often less than 1 pound per day for a 1,000-lb horse. Universities and extension programs consistently describe ration balancers as concentrated nutrient sources intended to balance forage rather than provide large amounts of calories.
One common misconception is that diet balancers are defined by high crude protein levels, but a quality forage program almost always fulfills those needs. A diet balancer helps ensure horses receive the correct amino acids and micronutrients needed to properly utilize protein provided by forage. For example, lysine acts as the first limiting amino acid, and micronutrients serve as cofactors for enzymes involved in the digestion and metabolism of protein, ensuring that crude protein is efficiently used. In reality, what matters most is the balance of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks horses use to support muscle development, tissue repair, immune function, and other biological processes. Diet balancers also provide targeted levels of vitamins and trace minerals that are commonly deficient in forage, such as copper and zinc.
Forage provides the majority of your horse’s protein and fiber intake. Pro Balance™ is designed to complete the diet, not replace it. Its concentrated vitamins, minerals, and carefully balanced amino acids, including lysine, methionine, and threonine, deliver exactly what your horse needs for muscle repair, growth, and maintenance without overfeeding protein or calories.
Bonus tip: Still not sold on small scoops? Feed Pro Balance alongside your favorite pelleted forage to stay forage-first, calorie light, and starch safe.
Most quality forages will supply plenty of protein to meet your horse’s daily needs. Not sure what your horse’s total protein intake is?
